Is this service legal?

The site and the services it offers are fully legal as long as you are following our Terms of Use and using the site as it was designed for: harmless jokes on people you personally know or know will take it in a light-hearted manner. If you use our services against our Terms of Use, which typically means using it to harass or cause harm to someone, then you will be held liable for any damages you cause and we will not be held responsible for your use.

Just don't be a jerk and keep it fun, and you can prank until your heart's content!

How about recording calls?

Most states allow the call to be recorded as long as one of the parties gives consent (Electronic Communications Privacy Act). You are the primary party to these calls and your consent is given when you agree to record the call. For the remaining states that require both parties to give consent (CA, CT, FL, IL, MA, MD, MI, MT, NH, NV, PA, and WA), it is against our Terms of Service to record calls unless you have prior consent directly from that person.

Additionally, you may not share the recorded files with anyone, nor submit it to our "Reactions" page, without the proper consent ("Recording Release and License") of the called parties. You must also agree to indemnify Prankowl from any and all claims resulting from your actions.

And caller ID spoofing?

The Truth in Caller ID Act of 2009 prohibits the use of a misleading or inaccurate Caller ID with the intent to defraud, cause harm, or wrongfully obtain anything of value. Our features fully abide this act as long as you are following our Terms of Use. Breaking any of the regulations set forth in the Truth in Caller ID Act of 2009 is also a direct violation of our Terms of Service.
